The Black Widow Spider Goddess

The Black Widow Spider GoddessSpider Goddess’s have been spinning origin tales of fate and magick from the ancient Greek’s ‘Arachne’ to the Hopi American Indian ‘Spider Grandmother’.

We work with the black widow spider goddess and she’s closely allied and associated with the Dark Mother or the Black Mother as referred to in some cultures. The black widow magickal energy is a midnight ray of the dark feminine path which can consist of and certainly not be limited to- transmutation of poisons both internal and external, sacred sexuality, creativity, fate, empowerment, protection, wit, charm, wisdom and seduction.

We turn to the black widow for protection and camouflage as we learn and discover her rich inner teachings that enable us to grow and learn about sorcery. She’s an avid teacher on how we ourselves perpetuate the on-going stresses and drama of our external lives.

Spider goddess’s are all adept in teaching magick which includes weaving the strands of time, this can be experienced by working magick backwards and forwards in time and space. When working with spider goddess we can weave our future by untying strands and releasing bundles and knots in our past.

This black widow goddess has a very rich magickal tapestry and dark comedic sense of humour so we can find her waiting in the back wings of our psyche- partly concealed yet ever alert to reveal our flaws through creative and ingenious methods of teaching. She can soak up our (psychical) poisons and help us truly comprehend and understand where we participate in disempowering behaviours. So when we are called to work with this ancient lady we respect her power and also understand that it is actually us that need to take responsibility for our own lives and outcomes. It is with the power to choose as fully fledged adults, even when it appears that all choices available to us may be highly limited and restricted, there is always some choice no matter how minuscule that can enhance minor or major positive change. It is up to us to action and honour this for ourselves.

How do we invite the Spider goddess into our lives?

The black widow magickal energy is attracted to those who are not afraid of the dark. If you are afraid to have the lights off this probably isn’t the energy for you. The black widow likes shadow as that is her domain on which she rules and governs so if you feel relaxed in the dark and have already undertaken some shadow self-work then calling her will be quite straight forward. Although spider imagery can symbolically act as a point of reference in your home or altar, the black widow tends to need less external homage than some other Gods. The black widow presence is psychical and magickal and she exposes us to our own shadow behaviour so the navigation we undergo is more about our internal corridors and midnight hues.

Most of her rituals and magickal transformations happen deep within our psyche. When we call the black widow for magickal assistance and journeying we get into a nice comfortable space where we won’t be disturbed and we prepare ourselves for the black widows wisdom to be revealed to us.

This potent magickal resource is deliciously empowering
